UM Today
Our interviews with UM students and faculty give a broad scope of the concept of the “model minority” and how it fits in at the university, whether or not it is relevant to the college campus racial/ethnic climate. To reiterate some of our research, Asian American Pacific Islanders are not a monolithic group of people. Conducting interviews with a variety of people showcases the different cultural backgrounds, different ethnicities, different languages, different levels of “immigrant” heritage, refutes the all-encompassing “model minority” label that inevitably erases those crucial differences.
